Rhodes Scholarship Fund Masters/PhD Degree
Deadline: 1 August 2024 (annual)
Study in: UK
Course starts Oct 2025
Brief description
Previously, the Rhodes Scholarships were exclusively granted in 20 regions, encompassing more than 60 diverse nations. However, the scope of the Rhodes Scholarships has now expanded worldwide. Two additional Global Scholarships have been introduced, enabling qualified individuals from any part of the globe to apply, provided they receive a nomination. The Rhodes Global Scholarship seeks exceptional young leaders who possess the drive to tackle global issues and foster international harmony and comprehension.
Host Institution(s): Oxford University in UK
Level/Fields of study: There are certain exceptions, but the University of Oxford offers a wide range of full-time postgraduate degrees.
Number of Scholarships: 2 Students who are not from existing Rhodes constituencies
Scholarship value/inclusions/duration: The Rhodes Scholarship includes full coverage of University and College fees, a yearly living stipend of £19,092 (for the 2023-24 academic year), a settling in allowance, health insurance, visa support, as well as two economy class flights – one at the start and one at the end of the studies in Oxford. The scholarship duration is typically two years, contingent upon maintaining satisfactory academic achievements and personal behavior.
Eligibility:
a. Nationality/citizenship: You may only apply to the Global Scholarships if you are not eligible to apply via any existing Rhodes constituency. If you have a strong connection to one or more Rhodes constituency but do not meet their eligibility criteria you should also consider inter-jurisdictional consideration rather than the Global Scholarship
b. Age: You must meet either of the below criteria:
i. You must be aged 18-23 on 1st October 2024 (i.e. you must have been born after 1 October 2000 and before 2 October 2006).
OR (for older candidates who completed their first undergraduate degree later than usual)
ii. You must be under the age of 27 on 1st October 2024 (i.e. have been born after 1 October 1997) AND you must also have completed your first undergraduate degree on or after 1 October 2023.
c. Academic achievement: You must have already completed, or will have completed by July 2025, an undergraduate degree (normally a Bachelor’s degree) with an academic background and grade that – at a minimum – meets or exceeds the specific entry requirements of your chosen full-time course at the University of Oxford.
Given the very intense international competition for places at the University of Oxford, candidates will have a greater chance of successful admission to Oxford if they have a First Class Honours Degree or equivalent or a GPA of 3.70/4.0 or higher.
d. English language: You must have a sufficiently high standard of English to meet the English language proficiency requirements (at the Higher Level listed) of the University of Oxford.
Application instructions: Applications will open on 1 June 2024.
